Natural Health Centre (Ltd) The Bach Flower Essences were originally developed by Dr. Edward Bach, an English physician, and they have been around for almost 100 years. They are the energy of particular flowers found mostly throughout England. The Bach Flower Essence most people are familiar with is "Rescue Remedy." This essence is actually a combination of five different flowers - Cherry plum, Clematis, Impatiens, Rock Rose, and Star of Bethlehem. It's traditional use is for stress, trauma, accidents and injuries. For example: take a few drops of Rescue Remedy whenever you have to do something that causes nervousness or anxiety, such as visiting the dentist or public speaking. Take them 1-10 minutes before the event, then take them as soon as possible after (as in the case of dentistry). The following is a description of the 38 Bach Flower Essences. * AGRIMONY * ASPEN * BEECH * CENTAURY * CERATO * CHERRY PLUM * CHESTNUT BUD * CHICORY * CLEMATIS * CRAB APPLE * ELM * GENTIAN * GORSE * HEATHER * HOLLY * HONEYSUCKLE * HORNBEAM * IMPATIENS * LARCH * MIMULUS * MUSTARD * OAK * OLIVE * PINE * RED CHESTNUT * ROCK ROSE * ROCK WATER * SCLERANTHUS * STAR OF BETHLEHEM * SWEET CHESTNUT * VERVAIN * VINE * WALNUT * WATER VIOLET * WHITE CHESTNUT * WILD OAT * WILD ROSE * WILLOW AGRIMONY For those who are so distressed by disagreements that they would keep the peace at the expense of not expressing their own opinions or revealing their problems. They hide their cares behind a cheerful facade. ASPEN For vague fears and apprehensions of unknown origin. BEECH For those who are hypercritical and judgmental of others. CENTAURY For those over-anxious to serve others to the point where they become more servants than willing helpers; often neglecting their own mission in life. CERATO For those lacking sufficient confidence to make their own decisions and are constantly seeking and often being misled by the advice of others. CHERRY PLUM For fear of losing control over mind or body; having the impulse to do something which is known to be wrong. CHESTNUT BUD For those who fail to learn from their own past experiences and by observing others. They repeat the same mistakes before the lesson is learned. CHICORY For those overly concerned for the needs of those close to them. They continually correct what they consider wrong and enjoy doing this. They can be overprotective and possessive. CLEMATIS For those who are dreamy, drowsy, spacey, not fully awake, living more in the future than in the present. With little involvement in the here-and-now they look to the future in hope of happier times. CRAB APPLE For those who have a poor self-image or who somehow feel contaminated or unclean. For feelings of shame or unattractiveness. ELM For feelings of inadequacy or depression arising from a sense of being overwhelmed by responsibilities. GENTIAN For those who are easily discouraged. For doubt and despondency caused by small delays or hindrances to daily progress. GORSE For very great hopelessness. When it seems that nothing more can be done and there is no hope of relief. HEATHER For those who avoid being alone by incessantly talking about their affairs with anyone who bothers to listen. HOLLY For feelings of hate, jealousy, envy, suspicion and revenge. For strong states antipathetic to love. HONEYSUCKLE For those who look upon the past as a happier time, pre-occupied with the "good old days". For feelings of nostalgia and homesickness. HORNBEAM For that "Monday morning" feeling: when some part of mind or body seems to need strengthening before daily work can be started. IMPATIENS Intolerance for the inability of others to keep up with our own pace in getting things done. This often leads to a desire to work alone. Quick in thought and action desiring no delays. LARCH For those who feel inferior and lack confidence in their own abilities. Anticipating failure, they make little or no attempt to succeed. MIMULUS For fear of known things such as poverty, the dark, being alone, heights, accidents, other people, etc. MUSTARD for the sudden onset of gloom, depression or deep sadness for consciously known reason, as if a dark cloud were overhead. OAK for those who struggle on ceaselessly despite hardships and great odds, never giving up when ill or overworked. Overly persistent in accomplishing goals. OLIVE For complete mental and/or physical exhaustion, when no more strength remains to make further effort. PINE For those who blame themselves. Even when successful they feel they could have done better and are never content with their efforts or results, often claiming responsibility for mistakes made by others. RED CHESTNUT For those who are over-anxious for the safety and well being of others, often neglecting their own needs. ROCK ROSE For states of terror, alarm, hysteria and panic; for states of extreme fear brought about by accident, illness, nightmares, etc. ROCK WATER For those who are strict in their way of living, adhering to rigid ideals and beliefs and often doing without joy in life. They are hard masters to themselves often wishing to be an example to others. SCLERANTHUS For those who have difficulty in deciding between two things, first the one seeming right, then the other. This may be exemplified more generally in the form of mood swings. STAR OF BETHLEHEM For the great distress and emotional/mental stress brought about by trauma, shock, or accident. SWEET CHESTNUT For unbearable anguish. When mind or body seems to have reached the outer-most limit of endurance. VERVAIN For those with fixed ideals and principles wishing to convert those around them to their views. Always teaching and philosophizing, they can be over-enthusiastic and over-bearing. VINE For those who can be dictatorial and tyrannical, but may make good leaders when not taken to the extreme. WALNUT For protection and constancy against outside influcences during major periods of transition such as moving, breaking old or forming new relationships, changing jobs, puberty, etc. WATER VIOLET For those who are independent, aloof and self-reliant, preferring to be alone even in times of trouble and illness. WHITE CHESTNUT For those who cannot prevent thoughts, ideas or arguments from filling their minds. These seem to circle round and round disturbing peace of mind and concentration. WILD OAT For those who have ambition to do something of prominence in life, but they have difficulty in determining which occupation to follow. This may cause dissatisfaction and delay. WILD ROSE For those who are indifferent and resigned to all that happens. They make no effort to improve their situation, surrendering without complaint and finding no joy. WILLOW For those who are resentful or bitter over adverse events in life which have befallen them. They feel they are undeserving of "life's injustices".
